Christmas Shopping in Our Jammies

Posted in Real Estate with tags , , , , , , on December 4, 2010 by lindacunliffe

Christmas gift suggestions:  To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance.  To a friend, your heart.  To a customer, service. To all, charity.  To every child, a good example.  To yourself, respect.  ~ Oren Arnold

I don’t know about you, but when December 1st rolls around, I think, OMG – it’s time to Christmas shop. And yes – there are many of you out there that are done shopping, all your presents are wrapped and nestled under your already-decorated tree, and you probably have your Christmas baking done, too. But just in case you are like me and tend to leave your shopping to the last minute – I would like to offer you some shopping suggestions with the hope that you can get through the shopping frenzy with as little stress as possible.

Seems that many are relying on the internet to shop this year. I even think I’m going to give it a whirl this year – and although I may still go mall shopping to actually purchase my gifts (I still like to touch and feel), I am going to look for what I’m looking for online BEFORE I hit the malls. It’s a great way to comparison shop, to find the stores or services that carry what you want, and to save time, energy and gas while you are in the planning stage. And the biggest perk? We can do our online searches or shopping in the comfort of our homes – at any time of the day or night – and we can do it in our pyjamas….

So consider this MY not-nearly-as-elaborate answer to Oprah`s Favourite Things.

Fraser Valley Pulse:
These gals have everything from unique gift ideas to fun family Christmas activities. The Fraser Valley Pulse is the “Fraser Valley Lifestyle Guide“ – they showcase the best places to “eat, shop and play in your local neighbourhoods.“ I recommend you check out this site.

Jewellery & Candles

One of the greatest benefits of my job as a Realtor is meeting new friends, and these new friends have products and services that I love to share with others. I had the pleasure of meeting Susan Brand this past September at the Campbell Valley Country Days. She is a delightful, spirited entreprenuer who runs two businesses – Silpada Jewelry and Scentsy Candles. For some unique gift ideas, visit her sites, or contact her direct at 604-538-7772:

Bonnie Kelly and Teresa Walsh, Silpada Designs’ Co-founders, work with designers and artisans from all over the world to create Silpada Designs’ handcrafted Sterling Silver Jewellery. Silpada Designs celebrates only the highest standard in quality, style and craftsmanship. Their newest Catalogue includes more than 450 bold, unique and highly detailed jewellery creations and accessories.

Scentsy Candles:

A wickless candle, called a Scentsy Bar or a Scentsy Brick, is a highly fragrant wax bar that is warmed to release fragrance into the air. Because the wax is gently warmed rather than burned, it can hold more fragrance oil than a traditional candle. And, because there is no flame, there is no smoke, soot, or lead. Scentsy wickless candles are a safer alternative to traditional candles. With no flame, soot, smoke, or lead, the Scentsy system is a safe way to enjoy more than 80 delightful Scentsy fragrances.

Online Shopping for Cool Kid`s Stuff

A bit of nepatism here – my daughter has successfully run two online shopping stores for several years, and her love of shopping for hard-to-find kids items is a great place to shop for the little ones in your life. If you are looking for kids toys, games, collectibles, unique Disney & Star Wars christmas decorations, check out these two online stores for great selection and great service – still time to order for delivery before Christmas:

Your Feedback and Suggestions are Welcome

Perhaps you know of an online shopping or Christmas idea site that you would like to share with others? Please let us know in the comments section.

Happy Shopping – and may you all be Blessed with a safe and wonderful Christmas!!

Meet Ken Buck – Home Inspector

Posted in Real Estate with tags , , , , on September 7, 2010 by lindacunliffe

“If it isn’t broke – why fix it” – Ken’s favourite quote

I have worked with Ken on numerous purchases, and simply put – he is a joy to work with! Above all, you can be secure knowing that Ken is wandering through your home (or the one you are considering purchasing). He is very respectful of the homes he inspects, leaves everything exactly how he found it, and will leave his contact info with homeowners so they know who has been in their home. Ken is all about integrity, honesty and providing quality service. Ken is also extremely thorough when doing his inspection. He takes many pictures that he will share with you at the end of his inspection – taking the time to explain both his process and his findings. Ken will also provide you with a written report along with recommendations for any minor work that might need tending to, or any red flags that might alert you to a potential problem. Ken has been very helpful to women home-buyers, taking the time to explain simple maintenance issues and answer any questions they might have.

I asked Ken what his goals as a Home Inspector were, and he provided me with the following insight:

My early home buying years were based on the hope that I made a quality purchase.  With the advent of Home Inspection, I now know I could have made better decisions.

As a result of training as a Home Inspector, I inspect a home as if I was the purchaser. I have four main goals:

  1. Look for safety issues – identify systems or components that could be a hazard such as electrical shock, trip and fall hazards to name a few.
  2. Identify areas where there could be major expensive repairs.
  3. Define inter-related components of a home and how systems work, such as heat and cooling, venting, moisture control, location of shut off valves.
  4. Identify minor repairs and provide maintenance tips.

At present time, there are many women that are first time purchasers.  They have to resort to doing much of their own maintenance and often are not able to find persons to do small repairs and service.  One main issue is dealing with moisture behind ceramic tiles in bathrooms.  I drafted a “how to” information sheet to deal with bathroom tiles. If you would like a copy of this bathroom “how-to”, please send a request to – I will be happy to email it back to you.

All Home Inspectors affiliated with CAHPI(BC) must be licensed.  To find a Home Inspector in any region or community in BC, go to: and select “Find a Home Inspector.” To determine if an Inspector is licensed in BC, go to and click on “Home Inspections” then enter the person’s name.

You can contact Ken Buck at

or call him at 604-302-0144
